Butterflies Pre-school & Priory Kids- Behaviour Management Policy

We recognise the need to set reasonable and appropriate limits to help manage the behaviour of children in their care. The person in charge of Behaviour Management is Jo Atkinson, who has attended additional training and liaised with other agencies to support this role.

We aim to provide a happy and well managed environment to enable children to develop social, emotional and communication skills which will lead to self-regulation. We believe these are essential life skills for future learning, development and happiness.

The responsibilities of the practitioners are to help the children:

Therefore the responsibilities of the children are:

Any form of physical, verbal or emotional abuse is unacceptable within the pre-school and club, whether towards an adult or child.

We will endorse self-control through following the rules and boundaries of the setting. These are listed in the Behaviour booklet.

Children who are not following their responsibilities and causing problems through difficult and unacceptable behaviour will be spoken to by a member of staff who will follow the settings behaviour procedure (see Behaviour booklet). Care will be taken to speak to all children involved in incidents. All negative behaviour will be dealt with in a positive manner. If unacceptable behaviour persists the setting will work in partnership with parents/carers to resolve the issue.

We will ensure that quiet children are not overlooked and while we respect a child’s wish to be left alone, encouragement will be given for joining in.

Every child will begin each session with a clean slate.

Physical punishment is NEVER used in this setting.
